Essay Instructions: Hello again!

I need an essay on the Italian Fascist leader Benito Mussolini. The concept of this paper will be based on his rise to power and what eventually lead to his downfall.

I would also like these questions answered in the essay; What was the purpose of the March to Rome? How did Mussolini rise to power? Who or what motivated him to rise to power? How did he come up with the ideology of Fascism and how did it influence the rest of Europe? How did he maintain dominance when he became the leader of Italy? How did he get so much support from the people? What eventually lead to his downfall and what happened during this time? What were some of the major decisions he made in World War II? What was the motivation for those decisions and the consequences?

I am also giving you a list of books that i have found that could be useful for this paper. If you don't have some/any of these books, feel free to use any other sources you have but please specify in the bibliography. I would also like footnotes within the paper.

A. Construct an argument about how imperialism contributed to the making of a global world in the early twentieth century. You may find it useful to ask yourself the following questions: what was imperialism; why were imperialists driven to imperialism and how did they justify their actions; and how did those opposed to an imperial presence in their countries articulate their opposition (i.e. what solutions did they propose)? Illustrate your points by referring to specific examples. Besides utilizing material from lecture, your argument should also refer to at least two but no more than three of the following authors: Comfort, Kipling, Ferry, Reed, and/or Hobson.

B. Contemporary observers called World War I the "war to end all wars," but less than a generation later, the world was once again at war. Construct an argument about how the responses to global conditions after World War I undermined international stability between the wars. You may find it helpful to ask yourself the following questions: what were the most important defining features and causes of postwar problems; what were the various responses to those problems; which responses were especially important and why; and what general patterns emerged (i.e. how did these responses contribute to and undermine the making of a global world)? NOTE: This question is not primarily about the causes of World War II, but about the problems of the inter-war period. Besides utilizing material from lecture, your argument should refer to at least two but no more than four of the following authors: Freud, Keynes, Roosevelt, Stalin, Hitler, and/or Mussolini.

C. So far this quarter, we have discussed several different ways of configuring the relationship between society, economy, and government. Choose three that you think are particularly important and construct an argument that compares them, referring to relevant readings as you do so. You may find it helpful to ask yourself the following questions: what were the most significant "-isms" before World War II; how did they differ and how were they similar; how did they relate to one another; what did contemporaries consider the strengths and weaknesses of each? Besides utilizing material from lecture, your argument should refer to at least three but no more than four of the following authors (depending of course on which three "-isms" you choose): Mill, Marx, Hobson, Ferry, Kipling, Comfort, Keynes, Freud, Roosevelt, Stalin, Hitler, and/or Mussolini.
