• one section should discuss how the film’s images affects audience’s view of the world or of nature, of society or of life in general. Discuss how the film affects your reaction to the world or the past etc.

Essay Instructions: The first critique should take a largely aesthetic approach to film study. That is whatever your argument, you must attend closely to the formal qualities of the film and the consequences of those formal decisions for thematic meaning. That critique is the best opportunity for you to demonstrate your mastery of purely cinematic technique through a fluent use of the terms of filmic grammer. It may be wise to focus on one aesthetic quality-mise en scene, moving camera, point of view, lighting and to track its significanece throughout the film.

Essay Instructions: "The Silence of the lambs (1991)" by Jonathon Demme for the paper assignment.
Explore Jonathon's usage of techniques such as camera movement, mise en scene, light and shadow to achieve the creation of horrific atomosphere and its monstrosity. Also write about the evils of sexism. Although the horro genre has historically exalted the objectification of women for the purpose of screaming and disrobing, a feminist undercurrent exists in the film through its protagonist. In this film, a strong female character(mascularity) contradicts previous genre stereotypes to impart an objection of women and depict the difficulty of working in a male-dominated institution.
