Title: Develop your own understanding of how the mind and body work together to create our lived experience

Total Pages: 5 Words: 1566 References: 3 Citation Style: MLA Document Type: Research Paper

Essay Instructions: Professor's Prompt:

Thurman and Armstrong discuss how humans come to develop their lived experiences via both mental and physical practices. Using these authors, in addition to either Sacks OR Pallasmaa, develop your own understanding of how the mind and body work together--how they must work together--to create our lived experience. (remember, 3 authors total).

PERSONAL INSTRUCTIONS:

When speaking of the "mind" I was told that we are speaking of the metaphysical idea, the mind controls the imagination (not the brain). Three texts are needed to write this paper, i must automatically use these two sources:

1) Thurman, Robert. "Wisdom" The New Humanities Reader. By Richard E. Miller and Kurt Spellmeyer. 4th ed. Boston: Wadsworth Pub., 2011. 460-473. Print.

2) Armstrong, Karen. "Homo religiosus" The New Humanities Reader. By Richard E. Miller and Kurt Spellmeyer. 4th ed. Boston: Wadsworth Pub., 2011. 22-38. Print.

For me to complete this paper I have the option to choose my third source from either of these two texts:

1) Pallasmaa, Juhani. "The Eyes of the Skin: Architecture and the Senses" The New Humanities Reader. By Richard E. Miller and Kurt Spellmeyer. 4th ed. Boston: Wadsworth Pub., 2011. 282-298. Print.
OR
2) Sacks, Oliver. "The Mind's Eye: What the Blind See" The New Humanities Reader. By Richard E. Miller and Kurt Spellmeyer. 4th ed. Boston: Wadsworth Pub., 2011. 303-317. Print.

Please only choose Juhani Pallasmaa OR Oliver Sacks, I personally recommend Oliver Sacks. (Three sources total)

I believe for the Juhani Pallasma source ("The Eyes of the Skin: Architecture and the Senses") that they only have certain "selections" or "excerpts" included only in the book stated ("The New Humanities Reader" by Richard E. Miller and Kurt Spellmeyer, 4th edition). The book stated above has all texts needed to complete the paper, but text all the texts (except Juhani Pallasmaa's) are not excerpts so can be accessed anywhere, but for Juhani Pallasmaa's text, I am limited to the information given to me ONLY in the excerpts provided by this book. Also this writing class requires me to state my idea/answer the question, but also give evidence and back up any idea i give through quotes from these sources and then to analyze these quotes and relate them back to my idea. I am also required about one or two quotes for each paragraph. I believe if the sources stated above were read then there would be a more complete understanding of the question and how to go about it.

An extremely brief summary of Pallasmaa is that we need to value other senses as much as we rely on sight, we need more sensory balance, and we have a tendency to overly rely on sight. Pallasmaa portrays these ideas using buildings and architecture as his examples. While Sacks speaks of case studies that were able to see then blinded later on in life, some were caused "deep blindness" where they lose their sense of vision and forget their family's faces for example. But others, even though blind have a vivid imagination, and see many colors.

Please if you have ANY questions about the paper, concerns on the topic or issues accessing the source, do not hesitate to email me, I am even willing to talk on the phone, just request my mobile number through email (no out of U.S. calls please). I am a desperate student at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Thank you so much for your service.

Title: Minds and Computers

Total Pages: 5 Words: 1595 Bibliography: 0 Citation Style: MLA Document Type: Research Paper

Essay Instructions: The paper will be about philosophy minds and computers. I will be sending you two files. One is the rules and directions of how to write this paper. Other one is the pages you will have to read to answer the questions, and write the paper. We also use a textbook called "Matter and Consciousness" revised edition by Paul M. Churchland. But I can't upload the whole textbook. If you have access to that, it would be great. If not, that is ok too, because the paper doesn't require the book. But some philosophical terms in the sections that was not talked about in the file might be in the textbook. Please read it carefully and answer all of the 6 sections in the file. You don't have to use fancy vocabulary. As long as it's clear and answers the question, then it's good. Please keep in mind that some sections worth more than others. I really need this paper to be well done. Good effort will be very appreciated. Thank you so much!
