The Assignment:

The past two weeks’ readings and videos have focused on what was happening in European art after the Renaissance.

For this short essay, please briefly pare and contrast the three periods we looked at—Mannerism, Baroque, and Rococo. (As your book says, “Scholars are still divided over whether Rococo was an independent style or a refinement of Baroque” (365), but your text still mentions generally accepted defining features of each.) Discuss the similarities of the three as well as their differences. Examples of artworks from the text can be used to strengthen your argument.

In general, the more focused and specific you are, the better your essay will be. Remember, you only have one to two pages to work with!

In this essay, I am looking for:

• Evidence that you have read the chapters and watched the videos
• A thoughtful presentation of your argument and opinions, backed up by details found in the source material
• Good organization and flow
• Clarity and coherence of writing

Although external sources and a bibliography are not required, remember not to involuntarily plagiarize by using words or ideas that are not your own without giving due credit.
