Total Pages: 3 Words: 880 References: 3 Citation Style: MLA Document Type: Research Paper

Essay Instructions: Freshman paper..... High school level to beginning freshman. The assignment is to devote at least two pages ( I would like around 900 words ) to an examination of fiction in comparison to poetry and drama. Drawing upon specific examples from works read........( poem- Summer Solstice in New York by Sharon Olds and drama read was A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry ). Discuss what you think are features that define these different genres. What are their different strengths and weaknesses. 3 scholarly sources which come from academic journals or books.

I also received this email as clarification ..... I want you to pull all of the elements of the semester together. You aren’t required to do this, but you might do a paragraph comparing fiction to poetry, one comparing poetry to drama, and one comparing drama to fiction. To help you make these comparisons, be sure that you use specific examples. If you say that poetry tends to be meditative, then use evidence from a poem to help make your point.

Title: argumentative literary analysis

Total Pages: 5 Words: 1811 Bibliography: 4 Citation Style: MLA Document Type: Research Paper

Essay Instructions: The Task: Compare/Contrast the concept of family in "A Raisin in the Sun" by Lorraine Hansberry with the Snopes family in "Barn Burning" by William Faulkner.

Construct an argumentative literary analysis based on a comparison/ contrast of a specific aspect of topic listed above. This analysis should be a narrowly focused argument; do not attempt to discuss all of the story or all of the poem. Find some common ground between the two works/characters and derive the argument from that foundation. Persuade the informed audience that your analysis is reasonable and insightful based upon a close and critical reading of the two works. The essay should be specifically focused, including a concrete thesis statement that incorporates both works; fully developed, with an adequate and effective use of quoted material from the two sources; coherently organized, displaying a consistent organizational structure to the paragraphing arrangement; and stylistically/technically sound. This assignment also requires the use of at least 4 literary criticism sources (2 on each work). The introduction should acquaint the reader with the works and authors, provide some pertinent topic focusing information about the two works, and establish the specific argumentative point (thesis).
The body of the essay should make claims and supply evidence and explanation that supports the validity of the thesis. Use the primary sources, the story and the poem, including quotations/explanation and textual details, and the secondary sources (the criticism) to convince the audience. The effectiveness of the analysis depends on your ability to clearly and fully explain how the textual evidence and literary criticism support your analytic position. The conclusion should simply remind the audience of essay purpose, restate/reword thesis, and summarize supporting points. A correctly formatted works cited page listing the primary and secondary works is required for this assignment.
