Message: when we compare the differences between developed nations to the undeveloped nations,poverty is one of them.when povery is high,I consider that nation to be unhealthy.The people ruling the county may be healthy,but the country as a whole is not.poverty is a major stumbling block for any development as well as to be globally competitive.this poverty leads to unhealthy people,most of the time is spent on health related problems,individually,and nation wide.therfore cannot be globally competitive

Message: I would think that an unhealthy nation would not be able to compete globally because of health care costs. Our government and big businesses would be spending more on health care instead of new technology to stay competitive with the global market. If our nation was a healthier one, than more money could be invested into new technology.

Message: I believe that we as a nation cannot compete if we are unhealthy. Because of the United States being the country with the most obese and overweight people, this is just the tip of the iceberg. I believe that heart disease, diabetes, and cancer are on the rise, due to the fact that unhealthy lifestyle choices are being made. I was making the comment to my husband the other day when we stopped at Wendy's drive thru on our way up north, that the size of a "small" drink now was what a "medium" used to be when I was growing up. I think that we are not only choosing to make the choice to eat poorly, but the portion sizes are on the increase dramatically. In my microbiology class, we are discussing cancer. We talking about oncogenes, which everyone is born with, and the fact that if they are left unprotected, they have a protective switch that can be turned off in the instance of cancer. Poor lifestyle choices CAN but does not always cause lack of protection. Making good choices in life including food, exercise, stress, and environment can lead to longer life expectancy and just an all around better person to go through life.

Ms. Lee is a 96 year-old retired child psychologist who lives alone in a one-bed-room studio apartment located within a continuing care retirement center. She is single, never married and has only 1 close friend. Ms. Lee spends most days reading and caring for her pet cat. She has stopped daily walks outside because she refuses to use a cane “that’s for old people- she says”. She has become quite forgetful according to the staff and the physician has requested a home visit to check on her, check her blood pressure and review her medications.
Ms. Lee greets you at the door with her pet cat and invites you in. Her apartment is cluttered. On the kitchen table are medications spilled out of their containers. A fan is blowing in the background, absorbing the smoke from a recent burnt pot. Ms. Lee remarks that “she is fine and feels great, although she does admit to a poor memory on occasion- she uses a tape-recorder to remind her of important things”.
