New, Experimental, and Improvised Music Concert David Durant, director Thursday, November 1, 2012 ? 7:30 p.m. Laidlaw Recital Hall USA Presents the New, Experimental and Improvised Music Concert The University of South Alabama Department of Music is pleased to present the second edition of the New, Experimental and Improvised Music Concert on Thursday, November 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center. As the title suggests, the program will feature newly composed pieces, experimental music and improvisation. John Goforth, who is a senior majoring in music and also the Presser Scholar of Music, is presenting three new compositions. Heron Bay will be performed by pianist Jerry Alan Bush, Professor of Music and Head of the Piano Faculty at USA, where he teaches piano performance and literature. In addition, he maintains an extensive career as a recitalist and master clinician and as an adjudicator for numerous competitive piano events. Goforth has also composed a new work for two flutes and piano which will be performed by USA music majors Rachel Moody, Brianna Smith and Meghan Squier. Senior computer science major Adam Moore will perform Goforth's piece for trumpet and computer. Another student composer on the program will be junior music major Shawn Wright. Wright will be the performer of his new work Three Dances for Piano. David Z. Durant will present two new works for brass on the program. A Storm's a Comin' will be performed by senior music major and bass trombonist Cam Alidor. The Sound was in the Wind and Surf will be performed by senior music major and trumpeter Lee Hughes. David Durant is also collaborating with his wife Rita Durant on a percussion trio entitled Heartbeats of American Royalty. The trio members are sophomore music majors Jessica Foster, Ian Jones, and Bryant Ramey. David Durant is an Associate Professor of Music at USA where he directs the Music Theory and Technology program and teaches composition. Rita Durant is a Visiting Professor of Business at the University of South Florida and is a local and regional yoga teacher.
