Networking Project
Project Goals
Given the following scenario, design and document a network for a fictitious company (The Elbryn Group):
The network uses Ethernet technology
The network uses the TCP/IP Protocol Suite
You have installed a network into an office building downtown. You have created a network design that includes a star, 100Base-TX network on each floor of the building. See the table below for descriptions of the floors:
Floors 1-3 30 users per floor each with a PC
Approximately 5-10 network printers per floor
One wiring closet per floor
Lower Level 30 users each with a PC
The computer center containing 15 PC-based Servers
Currently you have each floor on a completely isolated network, but you obviously want to tie them together so that each floor can communicate with the others. You have decided for traffic management purposes to split the network into 4 subnets (one subnet for each floor). Your organization is going to be attached to the Internet and therefore has been assigned the following IP Address Range: 208.32.16.0 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0. For ease of administation, you want to use DHCP in your network to automatically hand out addresses to client computers and you will use DNS & WINS as name server services.
You now need to provide specifications for the proper connecting equipment, assign IP addresses properly to each of the subnets, diagram where the connecting equipment will be located, describe the DHCP scopes for each subnet, show the location of Internet services servers (i.e. FTP, Web, DNS etc.).
Paper Format
Your design should be included in a professional report (typed in Microsoft Word). The report should be 8 ? 12 pages and follow this sequence (Please use the writing center, found via TopClass):

Introduction - Explain the scenario in your own words
Body (Technical Details) - Description of information that you found on the technology from journal articles and web sites for how each part of the network works theoretically, the benefits for using each piece. Your information must include MLA citations in the body of this report for where you found your information whether you are directly quoting or restating the information.
Describe the details of how you broke out the subnet, the details for setting up the DHCP scopes (i.e. The addresses and options for each subnet), your methods for placing network services servers (WINS, DHCP, etc.) Don?t forget to tell the reader to view your Appendix Diagram 1 that will give a rough idea of how the network will be connected in this scenario.
Summary - summarize your choice of the network, possible assumptions and trouble spots, etc.).
Bibliography - Minimum of 10 citations. Half of your total citations must be hard copy books, journal articles, magazine articles, etc. and half may be from the Internet.
Appendix - Diagram (1 ? 2 pages with your diagram indicating rough layouts with IP addresses of major components, connecting devices in place, etc.)
