Essay Instructions: Consider Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) technology, one of the technologies listed on Gartner's 2004 Hype Cycle that has high visibility today because new IPv4 addresses are nearly exhausted. On the 2012 Hype Cycle, IPv6 is now listed in the "Trough of Disillusionment", yet the U.S. government is still directing that transition to this protocol continue:

1. Name at least three advantages that government organizations will gain by transitioning to IPv6 technology today, in 2013. Explain why.

2. Name at least two disadvantages that government organizations will have to face if they transitioning to IPv6 technology today, in 2013. Explain why

Essay Instructions: Please write a critical report, with word count requirement of 2750 words with the objectives mentioned below.
Report Subject:
Transitioning from IPv4 to IPv6
Report objectives:
IPv6 offers variety of enhancements including increased addressing capacity, Quality of Service (QoS) provisioning, built in security through IPSec and improved routing efficiency, over IPv4. But moving from the current version of IP, i.e., IPv4, to the future version of IP, i.e., IPv6, is not a straightforward process due to their incompatibility.
The main discussion of this report should revolve around the question that how the current public Internet, which is based on IPv4, will be transitioned to IPv6? The problem is that while new IPv6 capable systems can be made backward compatible, already deployed IPv4 capable systems are not capable of handling IPv6 datagrams.
To address this issue a number of approaches have been proposed, which can be used either alone or together, for gradually integrating IPv6 hosts and routers into an IPv4 world with the long term goal of having all IPv4 nodes eventually transition to IPv6.
The three main examples of these approaches are the ?Dual Stack? approach, the ?Configured Tunnelling? approach and the ?Translation? approach. ?Dual stack? implies providing complete implementations of both versions of the Internet Protocol, i.e., IPv4 and IPv6, and ?Configured Tunnelling? provides means to carry IPv6 packets over unmodified IPv4 routing infrastructures.
In the requested report, critically evaluate and compare these approaches, with your main focus on ?Dual Stack? and ?Configured Tunnelling? approaches and prepare a critical report to discuss the constraints and various techniques and standards required for smooth transition and interoperation between IPv4 and IPv6. Using your conclusions from your review of the approaches, make recommendations for companies / government agencies on how various approaches can be used in each phase of transition from IPv4 to IPv6.
Please refer to the criteria listed below in writing the report.
1- Introduction:
Please include an abstract and an Introduction.
2- Methodology:
Please discuss the choices and provide explanation of various available approaches for transitioning from IPv4 to IPv6.
3- Use of theory:
Please make use of relevant literature including related books and articles.
Please use Harvard referencing to reference to appropriate theories/models across the report.
Please reference to at least eight academic articles / books.
Please reference to ?RFC 4213?, link below:
http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4213
Also please reference to ?Computer Networking, A Top-Down Approach? book, Fifth / Sixth Edition, by James F. Kurose and Keith W. Ross
It is highly important that only relevant academic literature should be used and referenced in the report including books and articles. Please do not use any non-academic articles from websites such as Wikipedia, Yahoo Answers, etc?
4- Discussion:
Discuss the constraints and various techniques and standards required for smooth transition and interoperation between IPv4 and IPv6.
5- Conclusions:
Please include appropriate conclusions relating to the previous discussion.
6- Recommendations:
Please make practical, relevant, and realistic recommendation in relation to conclusions and discussion
7- Style:
The report should benefit from clarity in structure, style, presentation, writing and grammar.
Word count requirement is 2750 words referenced from at least eight academic articles / books
