Essay Instructions: China's history has a tremendous lenghth and a staggering breadth. As an instrument of power, different dynasties have wielded this imposing "history" in different manners, yet invariably history has been associated with politics and normative power. My task is to determine the changing (or constant) nature of this association, and explore the relationship between history and political authority-from the Shang dynasty to the Western Han. Incorporate specific ideas and examples for each of the respective periods. Periods being the Shang, Westren Ehou, Eastern Ehou, Qin and the Han. Specific examples including Shamans, bronze tripods and oracle bones, Confucianism and Daoism, The model model of imperial kingship: Beginning at the End Spence, The Emperor of China.
What do we know about these periods of history? Look at the relationship between history and power, Is there a pattern?
