Title: Required Labeling of Genetically Modified Foods

Total Pages: 5 Words: 1483 Works Cited: 4 Citation Style: MLA Document Type: Research Paper

Essay Instructions: --Required Labeling of Genetically Modified Foods?
-- Agricultural advancements have allowed for the genetic engineering of crops that are more resistant to problems such drought and pests, known as genetically modified (GM) crops. Genetic modification greatly increases crop yields, some even believing they are the answer to world hunger; however, they are not without opposition. The European Union and other countries have banned GM foods and groups in the U.S., such as the Organic Consumers Association, have called for mandatory labeling of GM foodstuffs. The FDA’s official stance on the issue of GM food is that there is “no basis for concluding that bioengineered foods differ from other foods in any meaningful or uniform way, or that, as a class, foods developed by the new techniques present any different or greater safety concern than foods developed by traditional plant breeding,” and GM food products and labeling is done on a voluntary basis.

--Paper must include 1-2 pages of analysis and application of a philosopher or theory from these choices: Thomas Hobbs, Immanuel Kant, John Stuart Mill, Aristotle, Carol Gilligan, John Rawls, Milton Friedman.
