You should not being or end a paragraph with a reference. Your first sentence should be your introduction sentence, what is your paragraph going to discuss. Think about one of the â€A"social problems” that we have discussed this semester and ways in which it
could be addressed. You should spend a minimal amount of time describing the nature of the
problem, not more than 1-2 pages. This description should include references to both the
readings and The Wire. This section can be a refinement / edit of what you have written about
previously, but the refinement should be substantial. Simple cut/paste jobs, therefore, must be
avoided.
Once you have described the problem, think about ways in which the problem can be addressed.
Strong papers will take inspiration from "The Wire" and will weigh the pros and cons of a
particular intervention or interventions: what groups would be helped by your proposal? Who
might be harmed? Be imaginative in your proposal - it does not have to be limited simply
because it is not politically feasible in 2012 America. This section should constitute the bulk of
the paper (approximately 3-4 pages).
Finally, in your conclusion, be sure to highlight how this proposal could make cities more livable
or how it could influence the opportunity structure within cities.
