I'd like a game theory paper inspired by this article http://www.slate.com/id/2065830, about the game theory of the palestine-israel conflict. It can touch on the "5 possible explanations" that Wright talks about. There should probably be some concluding message that the reason why war continues is that acts of violence, or acts of non-compliance, are actually beneficial to both sides i.e. the conflict is a prisoner's dilemma (both sides have a dominant strategy to defect, even though defect-defect is the worst outcome for both sides in the long run). This is mostly mentioned in the second "possible explanation," which is probably the most interesting and note-worthy. Please emphasize the game theory, the non-zero-sum nature of the game, and the difficulties of getting to a non-zero-sum resolution (the presence of the Hamas on the Palestinian side, makes them play a hard-line in almost any attempt to negotiate, etc etc...), though a brief introduction/history of the conflict and its players would be very good. Though it shouldn't be a complete knock-off, Wright's article and his arguments/speculations can be the clear inspiration for the paper and should be cited, since there's no point in denying it. I said 3 sources, but really it doesn't matter, as long as they're cited. Please provide a bibliography. The text for our class is Dixit's "Games of Strategy," should you need a very good game theory reference.

Essay Instructions: This paper is going to be published as a sample paper in an academic journal that will be accepting papers from high school students in the future. Before marketing the journal to students so they can submit their papers, we are first publishing a sample issue.

The journal will be focusing on topics within complexity theory, and for this sample issue, we would like to round out our selection with an economics research paper that incorporates game theory. The thesis should be specific; it should do more than simply explain what game theory is. It should apply game theory (or specific games within it) to a current event or to a specific economic issue.

I would like for this paper to eventually be 12-15 pages with as many sources, but for now, I'd like to start with a two pages of writing (including a strong thesis) before continuing. If all looks good, we can continue and finish the paper.
