Essay Instructions: Frankenstein
In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley explores the relationship between science, technology, and progress. She posits the notion that just because something can be done does not necessarily mean it should be done. Using Shelley’s novel and other course materials, discuss how the novel engages the values of the Enlightenment, specifically the notion that reason and science have all the answers.
Your essay should be 5-7 pages long (250 words per page), typed, and written in grammatically correct English. Quotations and unoriginal material need to be cited. Sample citation styles can be found below. The purpose of this essay is to use the quotes to illustrate the larger elements of your argument. Excessively long quotations detract from the argument you offer. Use plenty of quotes to illustrate your points, but use short quotes.
The essay is due November 1st at the start of class. Papers MUST be turned via SafeAssign on Blackboard. A hard copy is optional (you need only submit a hard copy if you wish written feedback beyond a simple numeric grade).
All material not original to you must be cited. Use the following as a guide to citation styles.

understanding of the text, of some aspect of the text, of its
significance? Try to offer an argument (thesis, idea, position) that
ties together (or explains, or makes clear the significance of) one or
more elements of the text (plot, structure, style, characterization,
description, decisions, consequences, relationships?).You might want
to review the critical readings on "Araby."
Do be sure to make your own argument ? that is, go beyond our class
