Essay Instructions: Framework Prep

Review the instructions for the Final in Week 5. Develop a thesis and outline, and identify at least five sources for your Framework. This prep assignment is intended to help you prepare for the final draft of the Framework, which is due in Week Five.

This assignment must contain the following elements:
Thesis
Develop a thesis statement. The thesis statement will be the point or claim you argue or prove in your paper.

Outline
At a minimum the outline should include the agencies you intend to include in your framework (at least three) and intelligence and counterterrorism tools (at least three) that will be available to these agencies.

Academic Research
Students are reminded of Ashford University standards for academic research, which includes:

Primary (original) sources written by experts in the field of study
Secondary sources supported by research in primary sources
Credible sources (experts in the area of study)
Relevant research (materials are pertinent to the area of study)
In graduate work, the use of peer-reviewed journal articles (journal articles reviewed by recognized experts in the relevant field of study) is required.
Educational websites may be appropriate in some cases but should be evaluated carefully.
The following are examples of what is not acceptable for academic research and referencing:

Encyclopedias
Dictionaries
Wikipedia, other wikis, or blogs
Websites and other sources that do not provide quality researched materials (site does not use credible sources to support the information in the document)
All research must reflect professional academic protocol and be documented according to APA standards (Please see guidelines for avoiding plagiarism).

APA Title and Reference Page
The assignment should include a properly formatted APA (6th ed.) style title and reference page. The reference page must include at least five academic sources. In addition to the required APA citation for each source, the reference page should also include a summary of the source. This summary should include the following information:

The author(s) of the source
A brief explanation/summary of the source (Identify what the article is about or explain what the author tested, etc.)
A brief explanation of how this source will contribute to your Framework.

Essay Instructions: ASSIGNMENT:

STEP 1. Select a research article from the research area of interest. It must be ORIGINAL research (Please be sure you understand what this means) and we will discuss in class the journals that you should use as your source. Read and summarize the article and discuss how it supports your topic of interest.

Write a 5 PAGE PAPER CRITIQUING THE ARTICLE as follows. Please answer all the questions succinctly.

STEP 2. Include a copy of the article with your submitted paper.

STEP 3. Article Critique analysis to include in your paper:

1.What is the significance of the issue being researched and do the authors effectively support the value of their research project? Explain. (10%)

2. Discuss how well the authors reviewed the literature? Did they include an in-depth review and if not what could they have done to make it more comprehensive? Explain. Were the articles primary sources? Were there areas that they did not review that you felt were important to the study subject? Do they synthesize the literature effectively. (15%) Explain your answers.

3. Do the authors include either a tradition (qualitative) or a theoretical framework (quantitative and qualitative) that guided the study? Describe whether or not the authors integrated the theoretical framework or described the tradition comprehensively and do they use them to guide the entire study? Explain your answer. (15%)

4.Describe any new insights into the topic gained from reading this article and what other subjects are you considering exploring in relation to your proposal. (20%)

5. Describe the method of research used by the authors. Did the method suit the research question? Explain. Did the authors describe the method comprehensively enough so that you understood it? What did you learn from the method section that you can use for your own proposal? (20%)

6. Was the result section summarize the findings effectively? Were the findings clearly described? Explain. (10%)

7. Spelling, Grammar, Clarity (10%)
