Title: Relate Religion and Science

  • Total Pages: 5
  • Words: 1911
  • References:4
  • Citation Style: APA
  • Document Type: Research Paper
Essay Instructions: The books can be found at any library and are:
1. The God Gene: How Faith is Hardwired Into our Genes. Dean Hamer, 2004.
2.When Prayer Fails: Faith Healing, Children, and the Law. Shawn Francis Peters, 2008.
3.Medicine, Religion, and Health: Where Science and Spirituality Meet.
4. Religion and Healing in America. Linda L. Barnes and Susan S. Sered, 2005.

The topic I have chosen is: religion dictating medicine. I would like to focus on the strong beliefs held my certain religious groups, that medicine will have no part in their lives and that they will rely on "faith healing." To get a better idea, there was a case in Wisconsin not too long ago regarding a young girl from Wisconsin with Diabetes whose parents refused to call for medical help, claiming “healing comes from God.” The little girl died on Easter Sunday from a common medical side effect of Diabetes that was completely treatable and the parents are now being criminally charged.

The aim of this paper is to set up a comparison between religion and science by using 4 authors who speak to that issue in a way so as to see clearly the relation of religion and science on that issue. Be sure to include a section that makes clear both how you judge the relation between religion and science and how that has some importance for how anyone thinks about the issue you have chose. Essentially, present the science argument using facts from the text and then present the religion argument doing the same and then lastly a discussion section giving opinion and how this may impact the general public.
