The aim of this paper is to give you an opportunity to be an Ancient Egyptian Art Historian and a curator. You have been given an object from the Metropolitan Museum to closely study it. The aim is for you to apply a multi-disciplinary approach to study your object.

The paper should have at least the following three sections:

In the first part you will focus on what is called a formal analysis. In this section you will analyze the characteristics of you piece- discuss such things as its shape, color, texture, condition, and composition, which give the piece its expression and its meaning. This approach allows you the chance to look at an object with a critical eye. Formal analysis usually includes a large section dedicated to a full description in an impersonal manner (Stay away from such adjectives as beautiful, magnificent?€Ś.).

In the second section you will discuss the piece within its historical and cultural settings. This is when you have to rely on your readings and your class notes to be able to place the object within its context. You may refer to the reading material assigned for this class or rely on library research as it relates to your piece.

In the last section you are asked to discuss how this object relates to things outside of itself (how it relates to people or the institutions for which it was produced) and what are its distinguishing characteristics and style that date the piece to its specific time period.

This website shows examples using MLA style. Use APA style for this part of the paper and include pictures of the works and/or links to the works you choose.The work needs to be analyzed by applying the use of the different types of critiques; Formal, Contextual, Structural and Deconstruction. Compare a work from each artist and explain how these qualities have been demonstrated using the knowledge and vocabulary when evaluating art. You may use the Internet to find the artwork.
