This unit introduces you to the Cultural Studies approach to fashion. This
entails moving beyond thinking of garments simply as objects to a form of
understanding that situates clothes in the broader historical and cultural
contexts in which they are consumed and produced. The unit provides a broad
overview of the subject and introduces key concepts and ways of thinking
that will form the basis of subsequent study. It will also inform the
decisions you will need to make regarding which Cultural Studies units you choose
to study in the future.
