Instructions for Counterculture College Essay Examples

Essay Instructions: This essay is asked to engage with two people's perspective within the counterculture movement of the 1960s and 70s.
Fist one is : Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (of Hunter Thompson)
Second is : Trout Fishing in America (of Brautigan)
you will put these two voices into conversation regarding a particular concern of the counterculture movement. In other words: how do two of these writers represent a certain perspective in ways that are alike or different?
Some of the issues you might address: drugs, nature, the role of men, war, family, authority, what it means to be ?American?, ?the other? (in terms of racism, paranoia, etc..), youthfulness & the role of the youth, music, rebellion, religion, violence, the body, joy, sex, wealth/poverty, war. And there are certainly others!
Odds are, there are places where two writers? perspectives might overlap, but you will also need to find the tension in their individual ?takes?, those places where they don?t agree.
Requirements:
--A clear understanding of each writer?s perspective relative to a certain topic
--A close engagement with the text for at least one example from each writer (i.e. TWO moments of close reading). Each example, you need to focus to have a close reading, such as: Diction, ton, chapter placement, characterization, etc...
--The ability to identify differences in their perspectives and how they convey them (content and form)
--Providing relevant historical context that helps explain each writer?s position
- Use example in these two book only. (one for each writer at least)

Essay Instructions: Assignment Details: Sociology Discussion question

There is a restaurant in New York City that is famous for its outlandish behavior. The servers are rude and obnoxious, they ridicule patrons, make them wait long periods to order and to get their checks, and spill drinks and food all over them. However, people wait in droves to get in to this restaurant; the line to enter is around the block. How does this restaurant (which clearly violates concepts of social control and norms) attract customers? Why are people drawn to those individuals that defy social norms? Why are people attracted to musicians, artists, writers, or those in countercultures that deviate from mainstream society? In your response, include the definitions of deviance, social control, and social norms, and include which social institutions are responsible for teaching social conformity to members of a culture.

You have always preferred to observe situations from a distance and analyze possible solutions privately to yourself, and you rarely share your opinions until you are certain you have the right answer.

Your team, on the other hand, is comprised mostly of people who brainstorm their solutions aloud, share observations with the group, actively engage in discussion with one another, and are very open with feedback and opinions.

How would you manage these other roles and still work harmoniously with everyone?
How can you adapt your style to that of your coworkers'?
