Quote:
- Introduction: Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web; Use quote;
“I have a dream for the Web [in which computers] become capable of analyzing all the data on the Web – the content, links, and transactions between people and computers. A ‘Semantic Web’, which should make this possible, has yet to emerge, but when it does, the day-to-day mechanisms of trade, bureaucracy and our daily lives will be handled by machines talking to machines. The ‘intelligent agents’ people have touted for ages will finally materialize.”

- Semantic Web: The semantic web is a vision of information that is understandable by computers, so that they can perform more of the tedious works involved in finding, sharing and combining information on the web.
First step: Need to be able to define a relationship between pieces of data. A layer of semantic information needs to be added over existing content to make it accessible by machines. Site source: http://techbiz.blog.com/1730241/
Second step: new security concepts and methods, capable of handling semantics, have to be developed. Ontologies are used to store important and confidential data and so it is necessary to protect the ontology against unauthorized access. Enforce special types of access control restraints. Handle trust issues between communicating parties.
- OWL: Web Ontology Language, RDF: Resource Description Framework, SPARQL: SPARQL Protocol and RDF Query Language
