o Developmental factors contributing to onset of problem

III. [History of Person]

IV. Case Conceptualization
From a CBT perspective the clients problem can be understood by looking at the following
- Core beliefs-Based on her early experiences what are Jessica?s core beliefs. Remember core beliefs and schemas are often used interchangeable. It is important to remember we all have core beliefs/schemas which are derived from our early experiences. However, when these experiences are negative they can set the past for many of the maladaptive schemas which operate throughout life. While the Schemas may have served a purpose during childhood (ex: Be anxious or hyperventilate before dad gets home because of pending abuse). Later in life this anxiety may be counterproductive to current functioning.
- Early Maladaptive Schema-How has Jessica behavior been impacted by her early schema currently.
- What automatic thoughts do you see playing out in situations
- What are the Cognitive distortions
- Precipitating & Activating/Antecedent Situations that precipitate these events
How do events in the case vignette that have occurred in Jessica?s life precipitate the automatic thoughts, cognitive distortions, ect
- Working Hypothesis
o To integrate factual info re: self, others & world ? quick evaluative thoughts (automatic thoughts)
o Core beliefs influence development of intermediate beliefs:
Rules (e.g., I must be the best at whatever I do all the time, should, musts, thought to be absolute truths) Attitudes (e.g., It?s terrible to be incompetent)
Assumptions (e.g., If I am not perfect at what I do, then I am inadequate ? If, then)
strengths & weaknesses (skills & deficits) of client

V. Intervention Plans
How will CBT be used to help this client. What techniques or steps might you take to guide in treatment based on your conceptualization and what you know about how CBT is used to treat depression /Anxiety. What might you treat first the depression or the anxiety? What specific techniques will you use and why?

VI. Measure Progress/Review Goals & Interventions
How might you measure your progress? How will you know when Jessica is better?
