From a CBT perspective the clients problem can be understood by looking at the following
- Core beliefs-Based on her early experiences what are Jessica?s core beliefs. Remember core beliefs and schemas are often used interchangeable. It is important to remember we all have core beliefs/schemas which are derived from our early experiences. However, when these experiences are negative they can set the past for many of the maladaptive schemas which operate throughout life. While the Schemas may have served a purpose during childhood (ex: Be anxious or hyperventilate before dad gets home because of pending abuse). Later in life this anxiety may be counterproductive to current functioning.
