Throughout this course, you have been learning about the dispositions and competencies needed to succeed as a student in this masters program and as a clinical research administrator. In this assignment, you will integrate this knowledge into an assessment of skills that will guide your continued academic and professional development.

To prepare for this assignment:

Scholar-practitioner model: Consider your understanding of what it means to be a scholar-practitioner in clinical research administration.

Academic integrity: Review the relevant programs from Weeks 3 and 4 on the course DVD: Walden University: Foundations. Think about how you will demonstrate values related to academic integrity as you proceed through this masters program.

Scholarly/professional writing: Assess current strengths and areas for growth related to your ability to identify and engage in scholarly/professional writing. Consider which aspects of scholarly/professional writing you would like to more fully develop or refine, and think about how you will do that. You may want to refer to the Week 3 and Week 4 Walden University: Foundations course DVD programs.

Communication and teamwork: Consider the importance of effective communication between all personnel in a clinical research trial. With that content in mind, how would you evaluate yourself in terms of strengths and areas for growth? Identify two or more areas related to communication and teamwork that you consider a priority for development, and consider strategies for improvement.

With these thoughts in mind, write a 2- to 3-page paper in which you:

Explain what it means to be a scholar-practitioner in clinical research administration.
Describe what Walden?s values regarding academic integrity mean to you as a developing scholar-practitioner. Evaluate the impact of these values on the learning community, your work at Walden, and beyond.
Assess your current strengths and areas for growth regarding scholarly/professional writing, noting strategies that could help you improve in this area.
Identify two or more areas related to communication and teamwork that you consider a priority for development, and consider strategies for improvement.

An excellent way to become familiar with the roles and responsibilities of a typical clinical research team is to read job descriptions for each position on the team. In fact, clinical research administrators often interview and hire staff for their research enterprises. This assignment will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the clinical research team by writing two job descriptions.

To prepare for this Application Assignment:

Review the Learning Resources for this week, including the interactive Clinical Research Organization Chart and Clinical Trial Flow Chart (Week 3).
Reflect on responsibilities of each member of a research team. Imagine how team members would work together to conduct a research trial during each step in the process, including what each team member's contributions to the project would involve.
To complete this Application Assignment:

Choose one role of a team member for both a sponsor-based clinical research team and a site-based clinical research team.
Write two detailed job descriptions for each of the clinical research team members you selected. Include the following components:
Education requirements
Professional skills
Experience requirements
Interpersonal skill requirements
Job responsibilities and how the position would interact with others on the team

The role of stakeholders varies depending on their environment. This assignment asks that you review the week's Learning Resources and to identify and consider the principle stakeholders involved in determining the research question or outcome for the clinical trial.

Write a 1- to 2-page paper that describes how each of the principle stakeholders (government, industry, and the subject) influence or contribute to the process and the outcome of a clinical trial.
