?The paper is descriptive in nature. It gives an objective, unbiased account of a philosophical theory, problem, or concept. The content of the paper is explanatory. This is not an opinion paper or an argumentative paper.

?The paper must be a minimum of 2,000 words. This 2,000 word requirement includes the abstract, main body of the paper, as well as the bibliography or works cited page.

?The paper must include a detailed abstract (of no more than 125 words) that announces the precise subject matter and focus of the paper, its contents, and its organization. The abstract may be placed on the cover page of the paper beneath the title and author name.

?The research paper must be written using APA style. Consult a style manual if you are in doubt concerning proper formatting. A good place to start is the APA formatting and style guide at Purdue University found online at: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/

?The paper must been checked for spelling and grammar prior to submission. Papers that contain spelling and grammar errors will receive a reduction in grade.

?Your paper must include a “References” page with a **minimum of nine different sources.** Your textbook may be counted as one of these sources. The sources that you cite must be referred to in the main body of your text. You must acknowledge these sources using parenthetical references as designated in APA style.

The author demonstrates that he/she has a very good understanding of the subject matter and communicates this to the reader. The author accurately interprets philosophical theories without oversimplification. He/she is unbiased, objective, and scholarly when approaching the topic.

- Do you agree with either of their main claims? Why or why not?
- Does your interpretation or view differ?
- Do they ignore important evidence in Kant?

Essay Instructions: The prompt for this essay is: "Critically analyze Kant’s concept of the categorical imperative as a basis for ethical action in business."
The essay should show how the categorical imperative is used by business, as it can be viewed as the foundation for ethical business practices. An explanation of what the categorical imperative is and its components would be useful. Examples of Kantian ethics in modern day businesses would be good if any are reasonably found. Writings by Norman E. Bowie are generally the best source for this topic and one will be included. The paper will be turned in through turnitin.
