Essay Instructions: Assignment: Persuasive Essay 3 Pages, double spaced, 3 sources.

Introduction: begin by stating that childhood beauty pageants began in the 1960's...
they have evolved into freak shows where the young girls have spray tans, wear flippers (false teeth to hide baby teeth) Hair extensions

Childhood beauty pageants should be banned because they cause psychological problems, it sexualizes children, and they cause a financial drain on families

Psychological problems
Paranoia, anxiety, feelings of inferiority low self esteem

Superficial values

Teaches young girls that looks are most important, trying to fit an ideal
Girls take drastic measures to look perfect
Spray tans
Flippers
Hair extensions

Mothers stop at nothing - some are willing to have their young child get botox.
Mothers live vicariously through their daughters
It becomes an obsession and takes away from family life - always traveling to the next pageant.
favoring one child over another

Financial costs include: costumes (the average cost of a pageant costume is $1,000
Travel, hotels
Coaches that teach poses, and dance teachers, acting coaches

Sexualizes them. They wear revealing clothing/costumes, lots of makeup
Many experts agree that participation in activities that focus on physical appearance at an early age can influence teen and/or adult self-esteem, body image and self-worth. Issues with self-identity after a child "retires" from the pageant scene in her teens are not uncommon. Struggles with perfection, dieting, eating disorders and body image can take their toll in adulthood.

These are just some ideas...
