Essay Instructions: RESEARCH PROPOSAL: ** Does Birth Order Have a Major Influence On or Determine Personality Development? **
Must be a full fledged 10 page research proposal (minimun not counting title page or reference page). With a topic that is a well researched issue, a new path must be charted. This proposal must address a social science question and be based, at least in part, on qualitative methods. Papers must be doubled spaced, 12 Pt Times Roman font, appropriate margins (one inch), APA documentation, in-text citations. Numbers on text pages and a reference page.
** THE PROPSAL MUST HAVE:
-- A clearly written introduction which provides an overview and explores the context for the study;
-- An explanation of the rationale for the study;
-- Clearly stated research questions;
-- A thorough review of the literature on the issue/question;
-- A discussion of method, including your justification for why you selected it (and not another); method discussion will include research design, sampling, and all of the issues that are specific to method (i.e., overt/covert, gaining access, participant/observer, incentives, measurement instruments/questions asked, etc..)
-- How you will handle reliability, validity, objectivity or the equivalent
-- How you will approach data analysis
-- A thorough discussion of possible applications for (and limitations to) your research
** Also, the first three of the five phases of inquiry must be addressed:

~Students are asked to research their birth order according to Alfred Adler. Adler states that we develop within our family according to how our parents interact with us as we are born into the family. Our parents and siblings relate to us in a way that would fit in five positions: First, second, middle, youngest, and only. It is possible to fit in more than one position (psychologically speaking) if you have a gap of five to seven years between siblings. What is your birth order, how did this effect your development? Note in your report the characteristics that pertain to your birth order, you can use the position that fits you the best if your birth order fit more than one of the positions. For example: you are the first child but the second child did not arrive until 6 years later-do you feel you were treated more like the first child or an only child for the first 6 years. You decide which position fits you and tell why in the report.

Ordinal position, spacing, and family size seem to affect development. Write an autobiographical sketch about your experiences as a sibling in any of the positions that Adler indicates affects our development.
