Essay Instructions: Intro: A first year teacher presents a week long unit introducing the concept of multiplication to a group of third graders. The follow objectives are introduced in the unit.
1. Unit descriptors for multiplication: Students calculate and solve problems involving multiplication.

a. Memmorize to automaticity the multiplication table for numbers 1-10
b. Use the inverse relationship of multiplication and division to compute and check results.
c. Solve simple problems involving multiplication of multi-digit numbers by one-digit numbers (3671 x 3 =)

The children do well, but at the end of the week the the teacher is discouraged at the results of the assessment. Only 10% of the class met the objective, so he decides to present the class again. This time he decides to use principles of specific theroy of learning.

Task: For each of the folloeing theroies of learning decribe the basic principles around which the teacher would build the instructional plan.

In your view, what are the strengths and benefits of instruction and classroom management base on behavioral theory? What are the risks involved? Given these considerations, how do you see yourself using behavioral theory in your own professional practice? What measures would you take to guard against some of the pitfalls associated with these theories?
