Essay Instructions: EDP120 ASSIGNMENT TWO ? Further clarification
Essay (60%)
Write an essay that addresses the following question:
What does it mean to be an effective teacher?
Prepare a thoughtful response to this question that makes good use of appropriate readings and theoretical ideas that you have examined so far in this unit (This may or may not include readings from topics 10 & 11), and good use of your own knowledge and experience.
Your essay should have four major sections:
? Introduction- that establishes the importance of the question and indicates which aspects of it are addressed in the essay. Brieflyoutline the topics that you will discuss in your essay.
? Significant evidence - arranged in some appropriate way such as reasons for and reason against. The source of this evidence should be acknowledged;
This is the body of your essay and structured into paragraphs. Paragraphs should contain a topic sentence, several supporting sentences (which describe the topic, with evidence in the form of examples and references to sources) and a concluding/linking sentence (that finishes the paragraph and links it to the next topic or idea).
In this section of the essay, you need to describe a selection of the key topics/ideas that you have studied in this unit. It is impossible to adequately cover all of the topics in a 2000 word essay. Although many of the topics are interrelated and a good coverage of the unit content is essential ? a minimum of 5 topics from the unit needed to be covered.
You will need to structure your essay to present your ideas and arguments to create depth to your discussion. It is important to develop a clear central theme throughout your essay.
Include citations/ in text referencing to support your ideas. Try not to use too many direct quotes, it is better to paraphrase the information to demonstrate your understanding of the ideas.
Critical analysis of the topics involves you ?comparing and contrasting? the information presentedfrom a variety of readings and credible academic sources. By writing arguments for and against ideas, whilst maintaining your central theme will add depth to your discussion.
You may use headings if you wish (optional in this essay ? however, included in the word count if used).
? Conclusion - This should summarise the main theme/s of your essay. No new information should be introduced.Make clear connections to the central theme of your essay, linking the introduction, body of essay and conclusion together.
? References - You must refer to, and cite from a number of different references from the library catalogue and/or unit reference list.Correct use of APA style. Substantial use of in-text referencing from a wide variety of sources and all source material is cited and end of text reference list included.
