The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are perhaps the most controversial acts of the Second World War. Were the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki justified? Why or why not?

Essay Instructions: This is just a movie review on a film called "Grave of the Fireflies" made in 1988. Its a Japanese based film.
There are two topics you can select from: (choose one)

1. Grave of the Fireflies humanizes the American "enemy" of the Second World War. What narrative, dialogue, plotting, characterization and/or symbolic strategies are involved in humanizing Seita and Setsuko for American audiences? Considering these strategies and your response to the film, does the film achieve its humanizing goals? Provide examples and textual support to argue in the affirmative or negative.

2. The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are an absent presence in this film. How is this absent trauma reproduced through other absences in the film: the absent parents/relatives, the absent house, the absent buildings, the absent American soldiers hidden inside planes that are often heard but not seen, etc. Does this film suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder or is it cathartic? Provide examples and textual support to argue in the negative or the affirmative.

Its a response paper to either of the two.

I did put the bibliography/citation style as" let the writer choose" but its purely a response paper so we don't need any sources
