Essay Instructions: Artist Report Paper (5 Pages)
Select an artist and conduct external research on the artist’s life and body of works. The paper should focus on two or three significant examples within the artist’s oeuvre and provide formal and contextual analyses of those works, seeking to tie them into the artist’s life and the social and historical frameworks within which they were created and subsequently viewed.

The paper must follow standard format and notes: typed, Times New Roman, 12-pt font, double-spaced, 1-inch margins. The paper must follow Chicago Manual Style standard formatting and all sources ??" references, articles, books, images ??" must be properly cited. All things submitted must be proofread for grammar, spelling, sentence structure and content prior to submission. Maybe like 4 sources, 2 books, 1 internet (no more than 1) and 1 other (journal, article, etc..). Please use sources that are easy to access from the library, internet, etc..

The artist I have chosen is Artemisia Gentileschi. In addition to the above, the paper should talk about the context of her life and the time period. In regards to the works of art, talk about the context it was made in.

If this particular artist is to complicated to write about, I'm very open to suggestions about others. The assignment can be about any artist. There is no specific time period or location.

Title: Dierks Bentley Prodigal Son's Prayer and the Bible

  • Total Pages: 4
  • Words: 1500
  • Sources:4
  • Citation Style: MLA
  • Document Type: Research Paper
Essay Instructions: Artists, be they songwriters, dancers, film makers, visual artists, or writers, who quote, paraphrase, or perform the biblical text are, in effect, interpreters of the bible, and as such, they can provide interesting material for studying the history of the bible’s reception.

Choose a piece of art from any genre or time period that “covers” or is based on a particular biblical text or that alludes to a combination of biblical texts. In your paper, analyze how the biblical text works in this musical piece. That is, what is the purpose or function of it in this piece of fiction, poem, music, etc…? Why is the artist using it and to what end? How is the biblical text’s meaning changing with this new context? If you are drawing on lyrics, a script, or literary text, you will want to compare those words to the biblical text. You may also want to attend to the audience intended to hear the music. Your paper will need to address the context of the biblical verses both within the art work and within its particular bible story or cycle of bible stories.

Please use the Bible as a source.

***The piece of music that I am to use is Dierks Bentley's "Prodigal Son's Prayer"*** The following link are the lyrics.
