1. As an extra credit project, you may write a short, formal research paper (worth up to 40 points) about a topic that interests you and is related to chemistry. There is a huge list of possible topics here.
2. Find a minimum of three reliable references to draw from; one must be from a website, one from a journal article and one from a book.
3. Your report must include an introductory paragraph explaining the background of your topic and poising a question you will answer. It should cover the background of your topic and show personal interest in your topic. (5 points)
4. The body of your report will answer your question using foot-noted, supporting information from your sources. The body must directly relate to your chemistry topic and include as much of the following as applicable:
? Terminology, chemical names, formulas, structures
? Chemical reactions, mathmatical equations
? Graphs, data tables, measurements with proper units,
? Historical background
? Chemical history and/or applications
? Relevance to society
5. The body must have a minimum of three pages of double-spaced text. Any readable font, size 12, will be accepted. No blatant spelling or grammatical errors. (20 points)
6. Your report must finish with a concluding paragraph that sums up what you have learned (not just restating your introduction) and may include suggestions for future work. (5 points)
7. You must have a bibliography at the end of your report. (5 points)
8. In addition, the technical accuracy, appearance and completeness will be graded. (5 points)

Essay Instructions: This paper should cover current issues about animal testing for cosmetics and toiletries.It should explain why animals are still being used for cosmetics,legislation on animal testing, alternatives to animal testing. And it should explain what can be done to stop it (what had already been done).
There should be at least 20 quotations and citations, and there should be at least 3 footnotes per page.
Resources should be relevant: up to date.

a.Half the members of your team should take the ?pro? side of the issue statement, while the other half should take the ?con? side.

b.Team members should then come to agreement as to which side has presented a stronger argument and why. The team should state the main arguments of each side of the case (along with evidence to substantiate the arguments) and which side has presented a stronger argument and why.

c.In the end I want our team to come to agreement that testing on animals should be BANNED.
