Title: Air Quality Standards World Health Organization Compliance Standards

Total Pages: 2 Words: 663 Sources: 2 Citation Style: APA Document Type: Essay

Essay Instructions: Instructions are as follows:

One of the concerns of the World Health Organization (WHO) is the risks to human health and the environment posed by exposure to carbon monoxide. As a result, the potential health effects of exposure have been addressed in extensive studies involving humans and a range of animal species. In response to multiple health concerns, quality standards have been recommended by WHO to address all regions of the world and provide uniform targets for air quality. In October 2006, Dr. Maria Neira, WHO's director of public health and the environment, said, “By reducing pollution as set out in the Guidelines, we estimate that we can cut deaths by around 15%." Efforts around the world have been directed toward measuring up to air quality standards as recommended by WHO.

However, many countries do not have regulations on air pollution, and consequently the national standards in relation to quality standards vary substantially. Do you know how your country or state stacks up against WHO's air quality standards? Your Application assignment will be to compare differences you might find between your country's or state's standards and WHO's standards.

To prepare for this Application:

Review pp. 384 (Health Effects)??"393 in Environmental Science. Also, review the WHO Web site on air pollution, located in the Learning Resources.(attached)

On the Internet, locate the Web site for your state or federal government, and find resources on your state's or country's air quality regualtions and standards.

Consider the impacts of air quality on the environment, agriculture, the health of humans, and the costs of poor health.

Reflect on how mandating a certain level of air quality improves the environment and the lives of humans.
The assignment:

Using the WHO site and other sites in the Learning Resources, and other Internet sources as needed, identify the air quality standards recommended by WHO and by your state or country.

# Compose a 2-page (double spaced) paper (Be sure to use at least 2 scientific APA-formatted references for full credit) on the following:

Explain why air quality is important for humans and the environment.

Assess whether your country or state complies with the air quality standards recommend by WHO. Explain any differences you notice between the standards of WHO and those of your country or state.

Comment on whether the WHO standards for pollution have been successful in reducing air pollution in your state or country. If not, what more should be done? If the standards are successful, do you foresee any need in the future to increase or decrease the standards?

Title: Indoor Air Quality

Total Pages: 6 Words: 2350 References: 0 Citation Style: MLA Document Type: Research Paper

Essay Instructions: Basically, I want you to write a research paper on Indoor Air Quality. I will be faxing you several things that will aid you in completing this 6 page assignment. First, I will be faxing you powerpoint slides on Indoor Air pollution that I would like you to gain information from where you see fit. Next, I will be faxing you 3 pages from a text book that I have done research from that is strictly on indoor air pollution/quality that I would like you to pull some information from where you see fit.Next, I will be faxing you a two page article from "Proquest" that you will need to use. Lastly, and this is very important, I will be faxing you a paper written by my class partner. In her paper, you will see that she discussed 3 major topics of Indoor Air Quality: "Poor Ventilation", "Indoor Smoking", and "Other Indoor Pollutants." My paper is supposed to collaberate with hers the best it can. So, if you notice in her paper, she discusses these 3 topics and tells the causes/effects of these types of indoor air pollution. You will now write about these same exact topics as she did, but you will discuss how to prevent each of these types of indoor air pollution. Try not to repeat what she says in her paper unless absolutely necessary. Keep focused on ways to prevent indoor air pollution and ways to make indoor air quality better.Use the two page "Proquest" article that I sent you. My partner got info. off of that article and you can use it as well, because, as you can see, not only does it list the sources of each type of indoor air pollution, but it lists the "STEPS TO REDUCE EXPOSURE," and that is what THIS paper is to be about as I said earlier. Please keep her paper in mind while writing mine. It is important that I play off of her paper. Basically, when my paper is done, and I put my paper with hers, ; hers will list the causes/effects of each type of indoor air pollution and mine will list the preventitive measures and solutions to preventing those same types of indoor air pollution. Add pertinent info. where necessary and please write me an excellent paper. My paper will be longer than my partners, so if needed, insert important "filler" information where needed. If you take any direct quotes or ideas from your sources or mine, give credit to the authors appropriately. Use college writing practices that would be expected of a junior in a selective university. Thank you very much for your time and efforts. If they are any questions/ concerns please shoot me an e-mail to the e-mail address that I specify with my order. Thanks again. My faxes are going to total about 19 pages of information with everything that I specified in this "Research and Writing Guidelines" portion of the order form. If there is any problem at all, contact me immediately. I pray there wont be any problems. Take care.
