Another service the clinic should provide involves remote access. For example, the clinic should assess the feasibility of home visits by doctors and nurses. Regular phone calls to clients or potential clients would also help encourage pregnant women to avail themselves of the clinic's services. The clinic should also establish a solid Web site that allows women to access information from home and possibly, interact in a live chat with staff.

2. What incentives would you provide to keep them coming to the clinic before and after they give birth? Why did you choose to use this as an incentive?

Incentives will help clients trust the clinic and seek care as a matter of course. Free or discounted services would be a good incentive in any community regardless of demographic. Financial incentives would also entail working with insurance providers to make sure that preventative care is a priority.

However, the clients also must feel safe and comfortable with the clinic and its staff. The demographic of the community will determine the composition of the clinic staff and their area of expertise.
Clients will feel more comfortable seeking help from staff members that are aware of their specific needs. Language barriers must be minimized, and culturally sensitive staff are a must. Rural women must come to view the clinic as a part of their community and so the clinic must establish strong ties with other local organizations.

Practical incentives include the range of services such as shuttle bus and childcare for those who find transportation a problem. Similarly, remote access options for women such as at-home doctor visits and online support would help. Other incentives include creating support groups for clients. Support groups would allow women suffering from specific health care needs to discuss their concerns with others in the community as well as with professionals.
