They inserted a small electrode in the brain of the rat. The rat had access to a lever that was connected to the electric supply of the electrode. Every time the rat pressed on the lever, there was a low voltage current that would stimulate the reward center and therefore the rat was reinforced to press the lever again and again. This is the way through which the researchers got to know more about the neuromechanics of reinforcement.

When neuromechanics were studied specifically with respect to the learning curves in animals, like monkeys, it was noted that at the beginning of learning the release of dopamine is greater. As the period of learning proceeds, the learning curve declines along with the decline in the production of dopamine. The researchers, during this experiment, also suggested that different reinforces should be given to the animals in which one wants to improve learning.

Another major advantage of reinforcement is that it is an important survival tool. However, it also has its side effects. For example, the reinforcement power of food causes the people to become overweight, reinforcement power of alcohol may result in alcoholism and addiction.
This can yet again be explained by using the theory of dopamine production. The rat that was used for the experiment only slept ate and pressed the lever. Nothing else mattered to him. Same is the case with the drug addicts, they only work for as much as they can earn for their next hit with the drug. Nothing else in the world matters to them. Since dopamine is a precursor of adrenaline (epinephrine) it is also responsible for causing the feeling of rush in some people during which they are stimulated to go for any adventure that is provided to them.

There is a need for the scientists and researchers to study the neuromechanics of reinforcement so that the problems that occur within this pathway can be addressed. Moreover, the studies need to be conducted more systematically for a better understanding of the working of brain….....
