In conclusion, we see that the show Friends was never really meant to show reality at all, but simply an illusion of what we might expect New York City to be like for all of its residents. It was aired during a time of resurgence in the United States, not just for the country, but also for the city of New York itself. Crime had been cleaned up, streets became friendlier, and the city revived itself during the 1990s, creating a backdrop of American success for the six stars of the show to thrive in. Not all of America shared this story, as much of the rest of the country has been in a slow decline in influence and wealth over the past several decades.Detroit, Atlanta, or even Los Angeles could never have truly filled the role that New York City had in making Friends the huge success that it was.
