" (Council of Europe, nd) Boone holds that it is the responsibility of the educators and training to understand that "intellectual dishonesty in exercise physiology weakens the integrity of the evolving profession. Central to membership in a professional organization is the moral balance and appreciation for ethically-based thinking." (2003)

In other words, first the integrity of the profession of teaching and coaching sports must be upheld by those professionals who are in the teaching and coaching initiative and secondly it is the responsibility of those teachers and coaches to instill the same ethics of fair competition in the minds of the athletes whose life they play a major developmental role. In conclusion the statement of Boone is noted who states: "Frankly, I have never understood how values can be taught when athletes, winners or otherwise, are encouraged to take performance-enhancing supplements. It is a contradiction of sports ethics. Simply stated: We have no business encouraging children and young people to believe that the only reason to play sports is to win. It is an absurd notion." (Boone, 2003)

VII. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION

Having reviewed the available literature relating to the use of performance-enhancing drugs and supplements on the part of sports players is clearly a violation of ethical behavior as set out and that no supplement or drug should be used or should be advised by the educator or coach to the athlete without it first having been approved by the FDA, the sports league in question, and prescribed by the attending physician of the athlete.
To do so clearly disregards business ethics that exist in the sports industry and in the realm of business as well.
