Social Entrepreneurship

What organizational form (e.g. non-profit, foundation, government, NGO, for-profit, partnership organization, hybrid) is the best for your organization and why?

We believe that forming our combined nursery home and children's home program as a nonprofit organization (NPO) is the preferable choice because this organizational form provides our project with a number of tangible and intangible benefits. As a nonprofit organization, our nursery/children's home would retain the ability to accept both private donations from individual citizens, as well as governmental funding in the form of grants and subsidies. Furthermore, because the stated goal and mission of our nursery/children's home project is to honor Turkey's culture of collectivism, seeking nonprofit status is the most appropriate course of action. Because the community at large would be able to contribute to our cause, in the form of monetary donations and volunteering their time, becoming a nonprofit organization is the best choice for our nursery/children's home if we hope to stay faithful to our Turkish heritage.

5) Who will benefit from your organization? PLEASE do a stakeholder analysis.

The beneficial aspects of a combined nursery home and children's home would be far reaching and widespread, with everyone involved from residents to neighbors of the home enjoying positive changes to their existing routines. First and foremost, the young children and the elderly people who would be living in our group home would experience the most direct benefits, as the quality of their daily lives would be improved immensely. The orphaned children would get to live their childhoods as members of a family unit, with a variety of compassionate adult companions to provide guidance, affection and love. As Turks, these children need to be cared for as part of a family-like unit, and unfortunately the outdated model of children-only homes does not require the necessary level of adult care. Under our nursery/children's home concept the children would feel as though they have joined a new family, and with time the psychological damage caused by their tragic situation could be reversed and healed.
The elderly people who will be living in our nursery/children's home would derive many of the same benefits, because in the twilight of their lives they are typically left alone and have nobody to care for. Living alongside children would provide a healthy outlet for their parental instincts, and the elderly people would likely avoid falling into the depression that affects so many of our aging citizens. The families of our elderly residents would also benefit greatly because they would be confident that their mothers or fathers are enjoying a high quality of life while helping children in need.

The benefits of our nursery/children's home project would also extend into the community surrounding our group home, because we have included a community garden project as part of our proposal. This collective garden would be used to grow organic fruits and vegetables that could then be distributed for little or no cost to the members of the community who choose to volunteer their time. Seasonal harvests could also be sold at the Bazaar, providing affordable organic food to the neighborhood while helping to fund the group home's development. Finally, anybody with the financial means to donate to our cause would enjoy tax exemptions for their charity, as well as the satisfaction of knowing that they have helped to support a worthy cause.

7) Who might feel threatened by your organization such as direct competitors or lobbying groups?

Obviously those institutions which currently specialize in offering housing to children and the elderly, such as traditional nursery homes and children's homes, would view our project as a threat because we would provide direct competition within….....
