..After the water has been consumed, the plastic bottle must be disposed of. According to the Container Recycling Institute, 86% of plastic water bottles used in the United States become garbage or litter."

Another important point raised by some reports is that tap water is just as clean as bottled water but we let advertisers to make us believe otherwise. According to a blind test results, tap water was found to be as natural and fresh as any bottled water but it was when labeled were placed that people preferred bottled over plain tap water. The report concluded that: "...if you buy bottled water because you think it's healthier than tap, test after test shows no evidence of that. And if you buy fancy brands because you think they taste better, you're probably just buying the hype." (Stossel, 2005)

The third and most alarming issue highlighted by some reports is the privatization propaganda which makes capitalism look even more threatening. If we closely study the politics of bottled water, we realize that tap water is being repeatedly criticized not because it is not clean but because large firms want us to pay for fresh clean water.
The basic right to clean water is being snatched away with this propaganda because we must be provided clean water free of cost. However the large firms do not want this to happen and thus they are consistently forcing us to drink bottled water. They simply want us to pay for clean water and by making people pay for bottled water they are only trying to reduce resistance for privatization of water supply. This is a dangerous proposition and one that we must counter at all costs because it is not about water alone, it is about our basic civic rights.
