Anne

Davy

In a house in a Chicago suburb

During the night

A Dramatic love story

(The door opens as Davy enters. Anne comes out of the bathroom half dressed).

DAVY: Hi

(Anne does not answer, and Davy proceeds to the fridge to get a bottle of juice. He gets back and sits at the couch while Anne dresses in the next room)

ANNE: Are you still in love with her?

DAVY: Who

ANNE: Your ex-Tracy.

DAVY: That is why you did not answer me when I entered?

ANNE: Answer me

DAVY: I told you it was over between her and me. How many times do you want to hear?

ANNE: I saw you car parked at her place so you will not lie.

DAVY: (laughing) can't a friend visit a friend sometimes.

ANNE: (now dressed comes from the bedroom) this in not just a friend it is Tracy for God's sake.

(Anne sits on the couch opposite Davy while avoiding eye contact)

DAVY: So do you believe I still love her?

ANNE: You do; you only love her since she does not love you back.

DAVY: I did not hear that, say it again.

ANNE: Ill say, it a million times. You only love her since she is not in love with you.

DAVY: That is crap. (He places his cup of juice on the table).

ANNE: If she had returned your love, you would not be interested in her.

DAVY: It is obvious you are now a prophet.

ANNE: Worse still, she is lucky not to have committed the greatest sin.

DAVY: Which is?

ANNE: To fall in love with you.

DAVY: Where is this talk headed?

ANNE: It is a fact nobody needs to know, you never love except those football matches. It's all about your ego.

DAVY: You mean my ego, What about you?

ANNE: Am just the stupid woman who is taken for a ride.

DAVY: So you say love does not exist between us?

ANNE: Not for your case. It's just your excuse. To gain control over people. To conquer.

DAVY: I do not want to conquer and I have never done so.

ANNE: Yes you do. By making her love you, you win. Another point to your ego score sheet. Then you drop her like urine in the urinary.

DAVY: It is not a tournament. I'm not making my route to the top.

ANNE: Sadly, there isn't a final the show goes on and one. Deep down you want her.

DAVY: You Know I do love you.

ANNE: No, you hate me. Like you hate all other women

DAVY: Crap

ANNE: You do that why you degrade me and humiliate me in front of your friends.

DAVY: So loving you is humiliating and degrading?

ANNE: It is when the only reason you want is to break my heart

DAVY: Why do you say so?

ANNE: Because you continue following Tracy

DAVY: I am always with you what more do you want ?

ANNE: I want you to stop seeing Tracy.

DAVY: Why should I do that?

ANNE: It shows you still love her.

DAVY: We broke up 10 years ago and you know that.

ANNE: Then how can you describe the woman?

DAVY: I can deny she is the first girl I ever had a relationship with, and she was the first person I ever made love to but she broke my heart.

ANNE: That's a lie why then did you have relationships with her after you had broken up?

DAVY: Where does that come from?

(Anne's phone rings and she leave to answer in the kitchen for 3 minutes)

DAVY: who was that calling?

ANNE: Must I tell you who was calling me on my private phone? It is my private business.

DAVY: what is going on in your head today? Have you gone back to using drugs?

ANNE: Are you a doctor or what? Better yet, you are the one who introduced me to using them.

DAVY: I took you out of the streets and made you a person you are. If I had not given you a second chance in life, perhaps you would be still that hooker. That hopeless woman I took from the streets.

ANNE: Do you still look at me as a hooker? That's, why you still follows that Tracy from one corner to corner,

DAVY: (tries to smile) let us be serious who was calling. It seems it is not good news.

ANNE: It is I had taken a pregnant test, but I was not sure of the results, so I went to my friend Emily for further analysis.
DAVY: (looking eager and astonished) and what were the results?

ANNE: Emily posted it on her face book wall. We are having a baby.

DAVY: Are you sure?

ANNE: I think I am. Would it not be great?

(Davy moves closer to Anne hold her by the waist and kisses her cheek)

DAVY: I think is the day I have been waiting for all my love. Imagine holding the little one seeing those blue eyes like yours shinning like the moonlight. Her forehead just like yours and I hope it won't be a crack head like you.

ANNE: Sometimes you can be as sweet as candy. You make me cry and smile at the same time.

DAVY: That is why I love you. I do not understand why I love you, and at times, I have a slight idea of it.

ANNE: (Anne smiles). Do you really know what you are saying?

DAVY: I think the baby has come too early than expected. Nevertheless, I am happy.

ANNE: What plans do you have for her? I have a suggestion that before the baby is born we look for a bigger house, with a bigger parking lot and a flower garden.

DAVY: That is a good idea, and maybe have a new car.

ANNE: I do not think we should be in such a hurry. There are months to cover before then so let's take it easy.

DAVY: Maybe we should throw a party this weekend with some of our friends. Where you can touch alcohol for the last time, you know babies don't like boos.

ANNE: Who said so?

DAVY: It is not good for their health.

(Anne holds Davy's hands and looks straight at his eyes)

ANNE: tell me something. Do you still love me?

DAVY: I do?

ANNE: Despite all the problems, I have caused you. Having you pay for that accident and abusing you in front of your friends.

DAVY: I do. They say love is blind, but I guess my love for your is a hundred percent blind. So should we go out today and celebrate the night?

ANNE: Not after, we have taken something for dinner.

DAVY: So what should we cook?

ANNE: We can have chicken stew and mashed potatoes.

DAVY: Then lets proceed to the kitchen. (They both go to the kitchen holding hands)

Part Two

(The sound of water from the tap at the kitchen sink dominate the night)

DAVY: Have you ever imagined how the two of us will look like when we grow old?

ANNE: That's strange, why on earth should I start thinking that way.

DAVY: Sometimes I imagine how my face will look like with wrinkles and how my smile will be without most of my teeth.

ANNE: That is weird.

DAVY: Is it?

(pah pah the chopping board sounds)

DAVY: Do you remember our first kiss?

ANNE: Seriously? Shouldn't we be busy preparing the meal?

DAVY: We can do both. Can't your hands and mouth work consecutively?

ANNE: I have a stubborn "guy" here with me. What was the question?

DAVY: What was the feeling of our first kiss?

ANNE: I remember every millisecond of it. I was back then at the annual swimming competition.

DAVY: You have a sharp memory Huh. Wow it was romantic wasn't it?

ANNE: At the swimming competition is where boys meet nice girls. I was standing with my friends then you approached me drunk. I knew of that line you men always used. Why do you always pretend that you have met the lady before?

DAVY: That is a boy's way of approaching a girl.

ANNE: You always think it is the right thing to do, but it isn't. It proves that you are a coward. It is just a stupid line.

DAVY: So what do you think is the best approach?

ANNE: Just approach a lady when you are sober and say hello?

DAVY: What if she just stares back and looks at you face scared than before.

ANNE: You move closer to her ears and shout hello.

DAVY: I like that. That is a direct approach, but how many boys at that time could have approached?

ANNE: Then you stood there for almost an entire thirty minutes staring back at me as if the devil had taken you voice, Embarrassing.

DAVY: Then….....
