Personal Goal Statement Degree: PhD Term Paper

Most recently I accepted a contract position with an online college as a Subject Matter Expert for the design of a new Linux Administration course intended for the online environment. Being a teacher has, although not strictly part of my academic resume, proved to be an education in and of itself, as I am always learning from my students. Teaching students at different junctures of their academic careers will also be helpful in designing a variety of online tools for students with different learning needs and learning styles. A good online teaching program is both technically well-designed and also meets the human needs and goals of students.

• Research Experience

As part of my work in designing curriculums and user manuals for students, I have had to embark upon research to determine the most effective way to impart new knowledge, and to assess the ability level, of the user manual's readers or the incoming class of students. I have also strived to continually read about new ways to teach students from educational publications, as well as kept abreast of the technical developments in my field of expertise.

• Work / Other Experience have worked with several companies on various computer projects, including database design and software development. I have worked as a team member on special projects with other computer science professionals and performed hardware and software testing for compatibility issues for various companies as well as written user manuals for consumers.These experiences have required me to continually be a 'student' of my field, as well as to teach others about the most effective ways of dealing with new software, and computer-related problems.

• Personal Qualities

At times, my work schedule will require that I complete a special project or travel which will take time away from my studies; therefore, in order to help me accomplish my goals, I have chosen this distance online learning format. As a teacher, I ask my students to be very self-motivated, and I believe I have the necessary passion for my field to use the distance learning format to its maximum potential. I would also love the additional support provided by a teacher to give me guidance and mentoring over the course of my education, though. I think that the format will be ideal to gain familiarity with distance learning from the point-of-view of a student, remain aware of new developments in my field through work and yet allow me become a curious student again, while remaining an effective online….....
