War of 1812

Pretend you were alive during the War of 1812 and had a friend who has become famous in history because of standing up for America during that exciting but dangerous time. Describe the person and how he or she stood up for America. Explain why it is so important to honor such heroes when we celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812.

He stood there, hand in hand with General Calhoun and his soldiers, all members of the so-called War Hawks. They all held their heads up high with pride as the announcer called their names to pay them respect for their bravery and courage in fighting this war against Great Britain, once again proving to everyone that the United States of America stood as a powerful force, one that will never crumble. I stood there admiring my great dear friend. Not too long ago I remembered us playing on the farm, making noises at night to scare the animals, and now we're standing face-to-face, him on the side of bravery, me on the side of admiration. During the time of battle, he became the first to stand up, the very last to sit. Very little words could describe my friend William Henry.

His bravery prevailed in his need to fight and defend what he so proudly and firmly believed in. Having the courage to always fight in battles, he proudly took the task of becoming General and command a group of freshly new army recruits.
From the beginning of his legal age and dutiful age to fight and defend his nation, he took on the task of leadership. This leadership allowed him to triumph in just about anything he set his mind to. With freedom as his motivator, his force could not cease. With his tenacity and his ability to teach all those willing to learn, he quickly took his new army under command and came out on top of all of the other people around him, even when the odds stacked against him. His go-getter spirit always makes him into the leader that he has always been.

It takes a dedicated, intelligent, and masterminded person to succeed in times when things get tough, and William did just this for our country. He fought a battle that no one thought successful and winnable, but to prove everyone incorrect, he fought against the odds and prevailed. This exactly proves the type of person that William became, and what always described his character. But nothing proved this more than his complete and utter victory at the Battle of Tippecanoe.

The Battle of Tippecanoe became very well-known because of William. The War of 1812 became our second Revolutionary War. With the same ideals at hand, with our independence on the line, we fight….....
