He has finally accepted himself and his family, and with this empowerment he needs to let go of those pipe dreams which only made the family so dysfunctional in the first place.

Future

If they continue to accept and support each other, I see a bright future for the family. Throughout the movie, "the family pulls together in facing life's challenges head on and in the moment" (Rubin, 2009, p 131). The devotion to being authentic empowers the children, and the adults, allowing them to feel comfortable in their own skin. In five to ten years, this family will only continue to grow stronger as they support each other and allow one another to be as weird as they want to be. In this model the children will have less to worry about as they grow up in a world that would otherwise ostracize them. Olive's future looks especially bright because she has the love and support from her family needed to avoid falling into a superficial downward spiral (Herrin & Matsumoto, 2011).
Yes, she may still be slightly overweight, but she will not find herself starving to meet some sort of superficial image of beauty. With her family's support, she will see herself as a beauty queen no matter what.
