media is playing a major influence in determining how the general public will look at what is occurring. In the case of the Arizona immigration law, (a.k.a. Arizona SB 1070) it is giving the authorities the power to arrest, detain and deport illegal immigrants. To fully understand the media coverage of this issue requires: examining the message they are portraying, the way it is affecting public perceptions, how it is impacting the U.S. economy and what inclusion strategies could be utilized to moderate the effects of the media. Once this occurs, it will provide the greatest insights as to how this law could be redefining the overall scope of the debate on this issue based upon the coverage that it is receiving. What message does the media piece try to portray? Is it biased? Was it sensationalized or objective?

The message that media is trying to portray is one that is based on illustrating how the law is an attempt to harass innocent people.
Where, the actions that are being taken are: considered to be illegal and will damage United States' relations with other countries (most notably Mexico). As a result, the coverage on this issue is considered to be biased by not accurately portraying both sides. At the same time, coverage was sensationalized by looking at the views of: one liberal group to the next and then hearing the thoughts of pro-immigration advocates. How might the media coverage affect public perception of the issue? Does it encourage prejudice, stereotyping and discrimination?

The way that media is influencing coverage on this issue is by showing only one side of what is happening. They will then, begin discussing how these ideas are considered to be a problem through taking an investigative approach.
