Exercise 3-3

This week, maybe not my most charismatic week to be honest. There are definitely times when I can turn on the charm and be very charismatic, but this week I don't think I've excelled in this regard. I think that I should pay attention to opportunities to be charismatic because this is a skill that can be developed. Since I know that I have it in me to be this way, I figure that I should probably cultivate this skill a little more, because that will help me to be a better leader.

I think back to a recent trip I took. I was able to get a free seat upgrade just by asking, and when I met people I was able to impress them right away, gain their confidence and talk business effectively. I got a lot out of that trip in that regard, just be being at the top of my charismatic game. The trick for me is to always be able to tap into that when I need to, make it just a natural part of my everyday.

Exercise 4-6.

As mentioned above, this week's been a bit slow for me, mostly just working on my own. So there haven't been a lot of opportunities for leadership in that regard.I can say that sometimes you have to take leadership with customers and that is something I've done this week. Customers sometimes require guidance the same as co-workers do. They need to know what you are capable of, what you are not going to be able to do for them, and how deadlines are going to work. In general, if a project is not going as smoothly as possible, you have to direct people to fix that, something I've done well in the past. This involves not only calling on co-workers to help but getting clarity from customers about key issues, and effectively managing their expectations as well.

This score indicates that "your level of emotionality is too low to enhance your charisma." That's an interesting take, for sure. I agree in part, that a little bit more expressiveness on the positive side of things enhances charisma, but.....
