The decrease in 2006 is obvious to most all product categories and it can be explained through the economic crisis in the U.S. And the general reduction of industrial activities and corporate profits.

The communications and telecommunications subsector has also been subjected to changes in 2006 as compared to 2005, registering both increases as well as decreases, as shown by the figures below (millions of dollars):

Product Product Name 2006

Code

3342101 Telephone switching and switchboard equipment

3342104 Carrier line equipment and nonconsumer modems

3342107 Wireline voice and data network equipment

Communication systems and equipment

3342202 Broadcast, studio, and related electronic equipment 3,653.3

3342901 Alarm systems, including electric sirens and horns

3342902 Vehicular and pedestrian traffic control equipment

3342903 Intercommunications systems 433.2

3344184 Modems, consumer type 79.1

Unlike the majority of electronic products presented before, the communications and telecommunications systems have increased in shipments. The sole exceptions are the alarm systems and the consumer type modems. The increased shipment in communication systems is expected in the future too and it is explained by the increased demand on the market and by the benefits these gadgets have upon long distance communications.
The shipments of modems have decreased more over due to the development of subsidiary products which are cheaper, easier to use and more efficient.
