Applied behavioral science

This is a branch of science that comprises of fields such as sociology, psychology and anthropology that deals primarily with the human actions and seeks to give a general view on human behavior within the society. This is a field which takes an interdisciplinary approach when it comes to the study of human behavior. It explores the activities and interactions among human beings. Applied behavioral science therefore is a process of systematically applying interventions that are based on the behavioral science principles in order to bring an improvement of socially significant behaviors to a meaningful degree and demonstrate that the interventions used are the ones that are responsible for bringing an improvement in behavior. This case study is explored from cognitive psychology which focuses on internal states like motivation, decision making, problem solving and so on.

In this case study Jasmine has to adjust her leadership style and make organizational and environmental changes in the local store in order to motivate her team to meet the next quarter's sales goals. Therefore applied behavioral science can into play in this case. Whereby she will need to study the behaviors of the workers in order to come up with the changes that she will implement as well as the motivation she will use on them. Therefore applied behavioral science will be very useful in this case study as it will assist Jasmine in finding a solution to the problem and implementing the necessary changes needed.

II. Causes of issues in the case study

In the case study its evident that the members of staff lack the motivation needed to meet the goals that are set. There are several possible reasons that can be linked to the issue in the case study one of these reasons is cultural diversity. Since the workforce is diversewhen it comes to cultural background and these people are working in a team then there can be problems related to cultural diversity coming up. These issues can lead to lack of cooperation in teams and some of the members of the team lack motivation of working towards achieving of the goals.
Therefore cultural diversity within the organization is one f the causes of the issue within this retail store. Therefore Jasmine should look at how she can deal with issues of cultural diversity within the team members (Pieterse, VanDierendonk & Van Knippenberg ). Another source of the issue in this study is leadership style. The leadership style the Jasmine is using is not effective among the team members and therefore there is need to change the leadership style in order for her to achieve the goals.

III. Psychological theory

This case study revolves around the motivation of the workers within the retail store. Therefore it can be explained using the motivational theory of psychology which revolves around the fact that employees are driven by certain things in order for them to work. The team members are not achieving the set goals simply because they lack the motivation. As stated earlier cultural diversity comes into play within this organization since the team members are not motivated with issues pertaining to their cultural diversity. Therefore in motivational theories t5here is need to identify the particular form of need that the employee wants satisfied and then use it as a motivational tool for them (Ajang, 2011).
