Diabetic Foot

Increasing motivation of patients with diabetic foot problems

The diabetic foot is the major cause of non-traumatic amputations in the globe. The expenses incurred by the individual, family, and healthcare systems are substantial. Therefore, it has slowly become a complex problem, characterized with a multi-factorial origin. A good percentage of the patients diagnosed with diabetic foot will undergo an amputation. Moreover, there is a possibility for the patients to face a second amputation within a short period.

The incidence of diabetic foot is increasing in the world. Diagnosed patients often end up with an amputation; therefore, there is a need to verify whether patient motivation has the capacity to affect the outcome of treatment of diabetic foot patients.

Purpose

The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether the applying Model of Creative Ability could lead to positive treatment results (Casteleijn and Jansen, 2009).

Hypothesis

The hypothesis states that applying the Model of Creative Ability in occupational therapy of diabetic foot patients, will lead to positive treatment outcomes, when compared to usual treatments or therapies.

Literature Review

Motivation is a force that initiates and drives all behaviors, which later results to creation of a product. In addition, actions expressed by an individual are reflections of their motivation.
This means that motivation governs action and the actions represent the motivation. Therefore, in the diabetic foot situation, a therapist can assess a patient's actions and measure the level of patient's motivation (Casteleijn and Jansen, 2009). However, the authors agree that there are other upcoming models, and suggest a need for further research to refine it and document the model.

Methodology

Research Design

The use of quantitative research is the appropriate path to follow because an investigator can test the hypothesis. In addition, it is an empirical techniques based on hypothesis testing, measuring hypothesis within a given framework. Nevertheless, the experimental design, where investigators apply randomized trials to the treatment or control groups, has the capability to augment the reliability of internal validity.

Sampling

A study like this one requires a convenience sample. This means that only participants who volunteer to take part should be included as the convenience population.

Reliability and Validity Instrument Used

The CPA is a reliable instrument in the measuring of motivation of patients. Moreover, its application in the measurement of schizophrenia patients showed high levels of reliability. In so doing, it is my opinion that it….....
