The three models are the MacBook Air, the Toshiba Portege R830 and the Samsung Series 9. A recommendation is made at the end of the paper.

This essay will compare three different computer models for the organization to meet its needs. It is assumed that the computer chosen will have a high need for portability and performance, so the focus is going to be on three high-end lightweight laptops. They are the MacBook Air, the Toshiba Portege R830 and the Samsung Series 9. They will be evaluated on a number of different metrics and considerations.

Weight and Size

Each of the three computers has a 13.3" widescreen display. The material that is used is different for each computer, however, and that contributes to different weights. The Samsung 9 has the lowest weight at 2.88 lbs, compared with the MacBook Air at 2.96 lbs. The Toshiba is the heaviest, starting at 3 lbs.

Performance

In terms of performance, the Toshiba utilizes the Intel Core i7-2640M processor. The MacBook uses the Core i7 as well, giving speeds of 1.8GHz. The Samsung uses the oldest processor, a Core i5 2537M. The Toshiba is the newest model of the three, explaining why it has the best processor of the bunch.
Memory

The MacBook comes with a steady state drive standard, which reduces heating, increases load times and improves battery life. The Toshiba gives consumers the option of a 128GB steady state driver, but you can also purchase one with a traditional spinning hard drive. The Samsung also comes with a 128GB steady state drive. The Toshiba's traditional hard drive model costs significantly less than the steady state model, which might make it more attractive for this organization.

Communication Features

Being ultra-slim laptops, these models need to be evaluated for features that might have been omitted into order to accommodate the ultra-slim format. The Toshiba has a display resolution of 1366x768 (HD), headphone jack, stereo speakers, webcam, microphone, Bluetooth, wireless LAN, but no modem port. The MacBook Air's display is 1440x900, best in class. The Samsung Series 9 does not list its display in promotional materials. Both the MacBook and the Samsung match the other basic communication features of the Toshiba, including Wifi and Bluetooth capabilities.

Power

With solid state drives, all of these laptops can be expected to enjoy superior battery life compared with the organization's current laptops. The Samsung Series 9 has a 6-cell lithium battery with life up to 7 hours. The MacBook Air also has a 7-hour battery life on the 13" model. The Toshiba Portege R830 has….....
