Health IT

The current hospital setting has only a basic information system in place, which performs many of the functions common to the most basic information systems in such areas as patient registration, certain aspects of patient billing, and medical records indexing and accessing (Kelker, 2010). Portions of other system administration functions are also included in the information system being used at the hospital, such as the logging and tracking of staff in leadership positions, however this is one of the only more "advanced" functions of the largely outdated information system. Many of the more specialized and sophisticated functions more recent information systems can include, such as ambulance tracking and communication, digital communication with the in-hospital pharmacy and with other departments such as radiology and laboratories, are not facilitated by the information system (Kelker, 2010). Some of these functions can be replaced by the internal email system for certain cases, but certain types of information cannot be sent via this system for security and privacy concerns or for practical difficulties in such transmission (Kelker, 2010).

The documentation system at the hospital is similarly basic and outdated in its functional capabilities. Though it serves all necessary purposes, it could be changed to achieve greater advantages n efficiency and accuracy in such areas as creating different report versions for different departments, and other means of specializing the recording and presenting of medical documentation (Haux, 2004).
The current system is capable of recording and presenting only in a singular manner, and data irrelevant to certain purposes must simply be ignored and sifted through when accessed.

2)

The documentation system does include some nursing terminology as it's primary problem is not that it doesn't adequately cover most documentation needs but rather that it is impossible to tailor documentation to a great degree. That is, the breadth of the documentation system is adequate, but this becomes a problem in and of itself because it creates such a large amount of data and entry possibilities when often more specific and solitary pieces of information are all that are truly required. This is a problem that can be typical of some documentation systems, and specialized terms and entries such as some nursing terminology can be difficult to master the use of in the system when it is too broad and extensive (Haux, 2004). Still, once the system is fully mastered, it nursing terminology can be utilized.
