And, although there is currently a broad range of exciting opportunities in psychological research and practice that focuses on older adults, there are not enough psychologists to keep up with this growing segment. Therefore there are many exciting opportunities for students in this field today (Geropsychology: It's YOUR Future, 2004).

The goal of the America Psychological Association's Committee on Aging (CONA) is to progress the field of psychology as a science and profession. Their goal is to promote human welfare by ensuring that older adults receive the attention of the American Psychological Association. CONA works toward the most constructive development of older adult's scientific understanding of adult development and aging, and the delivery of appropriate psychological services to older persons (Adult Development and Aging, 2009).References
