Evidence-based nursing is the need of time in order to ensure that the patient outcome is improved and enhanced. Instead of relying only on the information acquired through the nursing education, nurses should incorporate new researches and studies into their daily clinical routine and practices. Despite of its importance, the approach of evidence-based nursing is still not fully registered in the minds of the people and requires clarification. Apart from this there are several situational factors which also hinders the application of this approach in the practical environment.

In this report an attempt has been made to understand the basic concept of evidence-based nursing and the role of research in it. Along with this report presents the use of evidence-based nursing in the future and the effect of this approach on other people.

EVIDENCE-BASED NURSING:

Evidence-based nursing is the new approach or technique which strive to cover the gap existing between the theoretical knowledge, research, and the actual practice. This method emphasize on the use of research findings in the process of providing health solutions to the patients and managing their issues and problems related to health. By integrating best fact and evidence from the research study with the expertise in clinical practices, preferences of the patients, and available resources, evidence-based nursing focus on improving the decision making related to the health care provided to the patients (Penz & Bassendowski, 2006).

With the use of evidence-based nursing the nurses can get out of the old and traditional clinical practices which focused only on the isolated and disorganized clinical experiences.
The profession of nursing is one of the most noble and respected professions and this calls for the incorporation of the best possible practices and knowledge in order to improve the process of patient care.

One of the problem faced in the implementation of the evidence-based nursing is that many experienced and qualified nurses are not aware of this concept and face issues while implementing it in the practical environment. The job of the nurses requires extensive exposure to information. If nurses only rely on the knowledge and information gathered in the process of education when they were students, it will not be possible for them to perform their duties effectively and efficiently (Penz & Bassendowski, 2006).

There are certain individual and organizational factors which hinder the application of the evidence-based nursing. Nurses lack the skills which are necessary to analyze and evaluate the research studies and evidences. Apart from this there are some hospitals and organizations setting act as barriers in the process of implementing evidence-based nursing (Colyer & Kamath, 1999).
